Where obesity is seen as an issue, but getting help is another thing. (Part 1)
https://ndiscases.blogspot.com/2019/02/morbid-obesity-is-it-impairment-for-ndis.html
I cam across the above link, and while im eating all the wrong things, cause getting my monday blue mood. I eat everything in sight. No matter what day, if im blue, im eating.
"The NDIA relied on its Access to the NDIS Operational Guideline [opens in new window]. Section 8.1 of that document says in part:
The NDIA argued that morbid obesity was not an 'impairment', because the condition is diagnosed simply by reference to a person's weight (generally a person with a Body Mass Index greater than 40 is considered morbidly obese). "For the purposes of becoming a participant in the NDIS the focus of 'disability' is on the reduction or loss of an ability to perform an activity which results from an impairment. The term 'impairment' commonly refers to a loss of, or damage to, a physical, sensory or mental function. The narrower definition of 'disability' employed by the NDIS seeks to target those people with disability who have a significant impairment to their functional capacity. This functional definition of disability focuses on outcomes for people with disability that are in the most need (Explanatory Statement to the Becoming a Participant Rules.).
Simply by looking at me, !!! I have reports, docs notes, even hospitals, state my size is an issue, You are weighed, in all these places, to assume anything just from looks, is a sick excuse to help an impairment. For me its an impairment and based on comments from said medical staff, :if you just lose weight, everything else will be better"
That my weight is stopping me, from walking, from being a solid person in community. You just either get drugs, which many can not afford, or cant take, from costs, supply into the country, or your health issues.
Its just not a case of losing weight, it is gene related, it is mental health, it is social food related. And we all know its cheaper at this time, or easier, for one of the reasons, at this time, that comes in under cost of living, homelessness.
For me, having a set ready meals, work better. But taking the time to cook, and prepare, because, im either coughing, overheating or in chronic pain. EASY FOODS are easier.
And the circle goes, on. Each year for the last 5 i have dropped and replaced the same weight, at least twice a year, it seems.
ITs not just looking at some one, and going they are obese. Doctors have stated, it after taking my weight. Cant have certain ops, cause of my weight, not because i have a 16 year old chronic cough.
MY WEIGHT!!! is the impairment. And its just not me looking in a mirror.
Being told, lose the weight every other issue will be better, Being judged because you are obese, makes us a very sad society, AND says alot about the #NDIS
